Lapis lazuli is a semi-precious stone. Its main component is lapis lazuli, which is responsible for its characteristic blue color.

Etymologically, lapis means stone in Latin. The second word comes from the Persian word Lazwar, which again means stone in Persian. Finally, lazuli became the root of the words azure, azzurro, azul, azur, which in various European languages means blue. Therefore, Lapis Lazuli is the blue stone.
